When you order you custom leather sandals from Better than Barefoot Sandals, you will select your general shoe size, and a design (if you choose a design).

Within 1-3 business days, we will ship you our signature custom "barefit" kit which will not only provide you with samples of all of our leather colors and stains, but, also our one-of-a-kind barefit molds. Once you complete the custom "barefit" kit, and return it to us in the packaging provided, the magic of creating your custom leather sandals begin.

First, we unpack your kit, cut the leather for your custom leather sandals, wet the leather, and mold the leather uppers to your barefit mold. This gives your leather uppers the exact shape of the bottom of your foot. Once the upper molding process begins, we set your custom leather uppers, insoles, and heel components on our drying rack to give the leather time to conform exactly to your foot.

Once the leather has completely dried, we fit the custom leather straps for your sandals to your barefit mold and move it to our second set of drying racks, to give the straps time to conform to your foot shape.

After the straps have had time to dry, we dye or stain all the leather components of your custom leather sandals, apply the finish, and place it on our finishing rack to give the special mixture of finishing oils time to penetrate all pieces of your custom leather sandals.

Next, using an ultra-durable water resistant glue, we assemble each of your custom leather sandals separately directly on your barefit mold, so that, even during the assembly process, your custom leather sandals is adjusting to the unique shape of each of your feet. We pay particular attention to comfort and durability during each step - but, especially during the assembly phase.

Finally, once the first step of assembly is complete, we groove, punch and handstitch each of your leather sandals by hand, ensuring that your sandals will hold up to years and years of rugged wear.

Each sandal then goes through our quality control process where they are checked for fit with your barefit mold, durability tested, and given a final "once over" to ensure that your custom leather sandals are ready for you.

Your custom leather sandals then move to our packaging and shipping area, where they are carefully packaged and prepared for shipment.

Each step of our process - from preparing your individual custom barefit kit to packaging and shipping your completed custom leather sandals - is carefully executed, always keeping in mind that each of your custom leather sandals has an important "job" for you.
